This is a Public Service
Announcement I would like to make!
We live in a world with so much negativity. So much that it's
not even funny anymore (it never was to begin with). We all talk about being
nice, and taking the high road and making this world a beautiful place to live
in etc etc but are we really doing what we preach? I don't think so. It's the
little things that need focusing on, the little things.
#1 - Bullying. And I don't mean just physical harassment. What I
want to shed light on is the mental and psychological stress one goes through
by being bullied with harsh words. Always remember - every individual is
unique. We all have our individual differences. If you call me fat, I will
laugh it off (or punch you) but if you call, for example, my friend, fat, she
may develop an eating disorder, go into depression, become introverted and
maybe even be afraid to come out in public forever. The college bullying is a
completely different scenario. Seniors walking into your classrooms, telling
you they're the boss, demanding respect and expecting you to conform to
everything they say, yeah, NO! You're the cowards. It's not happening. I don't
conform to idiots like that. You be nice to me and I'll be nice to you, simple
as that. Freshers just want to feel welcome. The first impression is the best
impression and then there are some people just ruining it for the whole lot and
in the process, we miss out on some really nice people among the
"seniors". I bet if you "seniors" were nicer to us, we'd
actually be your fans or respect you or whatever. So don't. Don't hurt people
with words. I don't care if you're older than me, younger than me, wiser,
smarter, whatever-er, you don't get to judge me or anyone else. You're not God.
#2 - All this hype about people protesting against homosexuality
and going to them and saying things like "This is a sin" or
"You're going to hell" - Stop it. They probably already know
everything that the Holy Bible has to say about it and whether or not they're
going to hell. Heck, they're probably 100x better than we are as human beings.
They don't need mortals like us to tell them what they're doing is right or
wrong. Again, we're not God and we don't get to judge. I'm not promoting
homosexuality but I don't despise those who choose that way of life. I just
don't. We don't know their story, we don't get to judge. The humanitarian thing
to do would be to love everyone equally.
#3 - Remarking Physical Appearance - This is for all the girls
who live under layers of make up - Stop. I don't mean stop wearing make up, I
mean, stop asking us to wear make up. I don't ever walk up to you and say,
"Hey you need to stop wearing so much make up." Do I? Do you realize
40 years from now, I will (probably) have firm, smooth skin whereas you'll just
look like a bag of wrinkles because you were busy damaging your skin back then?
So who's the real loser here?
And pimples. Don't even get me started on pimples. I have this person in class who tells me at least twice a week that I have pimples on my face. SO WHAT? Do you really think people care about whether or not I have them on MY face? Also, I doubt I have friends who will stop being my friend because I have a pimple on my face. It's not something I can control and saying it one million times isn't magically going to make it disappear. So stop. I don't need your opinion about my skin or anything concerning my body for that matter.

#4 - Faking your emotions - I don't even know where to start
with this one. Don't do that princess-3-second cover-your-mouth snicker laugh.
It's annoying. It's disgusting and so fake. Laugh out loud! Please. Even though
it makes you look silly, just do it. I'm begging you. I sound like a
hyperventilating walrus that snorts, but I laugh like that anyway. It's so much
more appealing.
#5 - Don't generalize - Don't say things like "what girls
are supposed to do", "this is not for girls", "be
girly". No. There is no concrete definition of how a girl must be. I, for
example, do my nails, read Nicholas Sparks' books, play FarmVille and even
watch rom-coms. But I also play Need For Speed Most Wanted, read crime fiction,
Greek mythology etc. Be different. Be yourself.
I've
just wanted to get these things out of my system for a really long time. Feel
free to share this with anyone you like. I'm not seeking publicity. This is
solely for the attention of the people of today. Be nice to one another. Spread love and positivism. Only we can make a difference
and we should strive to do just that.
